10 hours relevant for CPD

RELEVANT FOR

This course is relevant for all members of the maternity team that have a particular interest in inequalities, and some teaching/leadership responsibility in their organisation. Delegates will usually have completed basic training in inequalities already and be keen to develop their skills further.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Our Cultural Curiosity and Safety (CCS) workshops aim to address disparities in care delivery, foster a culture of inclusion, and improve patient outcomes by exploring the relationship between individual values, biases, and behaviours using a values alignment methodology. This Train the Trainer course supports delegates to run the Cultural Curiosity and Safety (CCS) workshop in-house.

CONTENT

Delegates will explore the following elements:

Theoretical Foundations

  • Exploration of key research to establish the evidence base for the methodology, and understanding how bias manifests in healthcare and its impact on patient care.

Workshop Framework and Methodology

  • Introduction to the values alignment methodology and how to facilitate values clarification exercises to address dissonance between values and behaviours.
  • Case study exercises to practice guiding participants through real-world scenarios, helping them plan responses to morally complex or bias-driven challenges.

Facilitation Skills Development

  • Training on creating an inclusive and safe learning environment for participants to explore biases and engage in sensitive discussions.
  • Strategies to handle resistance, foster meaningful engagement, and maintain neutrality as a facilitator.

Practical Facilitation Practice

  • Trainers will practice delivering sections of the workshop in a supportive environment, with feedback from peers and facilitators.
  • Role-play scenarios to build confidence in delivering workshops to diverse staff groups.

Customisation for Organisational Needs

  • Guidance on tailoring workshops to reflect the Trust’s values, staff demographics, and patient care priorities.

Course Structure

Trainers will be observed and approved on their facilitation skills during the programme and receive certification upon successful completion. Following completion of the course, ongoing support is provided via mentorship sessions and email contact.

The course also includes trainer manuals, workshop templates, and facilitation toolkits to ensure consistency, and support in selecting local case studies to maximise impact.

The Train the Trainer course covers a license for the organisation to run the training for 18 months, only if delegates are successful in attending and completing all aspects of the course. After 18 months, a top up and small follow up fee is required to maintain the license.
