The Need for Training
In the UK, one in every 13 babies is born premature, and this rate is increasing (Bliss, 2023; ONS). The latest MBRRACE-UK State of the Nation report (2023) found that babies born early (before 37 weeks’ gestational age) accounted for 3 in 4 of stillbirths, late fetal losses and neonatal deaths in the UK in 2021. Complications related to preterm birth are the leading cause of death amongst children worldwide (Lancet, 2022).
MBRRACE-UK have repeatedly recommended an “emphasis on reducing rates of preterm birth, particularly the most extreme preterm group,” in order to accelerate the reduction of stillbirths and neonatal deaths to meet national targets.
There are many strategies and interventions that can predict, prevent and reduce the chance of preterm birth, and optimise perinatal care when preterm birth cannot be prevented, as recommended in Element 5 of the Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle version 3. Through this course, experts examine many of these strategies and interventions in detail.

- Practical and effective implementation strategies in line with guidance in the Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle v3.
