This course is most effective when run at an LMNS or ICB level regionally. The day will inform policies and guidelines, and the longevity of the course’s impact will be greater when delivered to regional audience. We are fortunate to have the experts who led on the elements teaching on the course, and the days are very highly evaluated.
This course is for all clinical staff with an interest in preterm delivery and the management of small babies. Heads of Midwifery, Midwifery Sisters, Sonographers, Screening Coordinators, Improvement Leads (those who are part of the Maternal and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative or who are implementing the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle), O&G Consultants and Trainees.
The Department of Health and Social Care’s ‘Safer Maternity Care: Progress Report’ (2021) outlined, in detail, the ongoing national strategy to achieve the ‘Maternity Safety Ambition’ of halving stillbirths, neonatal and maternal deaths, and brain injuries by 2025, with a further ambition set to reduce preterm births from 8% to 6%.
This study day presents both an understanding of the origins of the outcomes of stillbirth, preterm birth, and fetal growth restriction, and practical ways in which these can be influenced. This will help teams meet the aspirational targets within the ‘Maternity Safety Ambition’, set out in the ‘Saving Babies’ Lives’ care bundle. Local Maternity Champions would benefit from attendance, as well as frontline maternity staff.
Our course directors are leaders in the field with national and international reputations, and frontline professionals, with the intention to provide interactive sessions on:
Please note: The course does not address technical aspects of scanning, multiple pregnancies or pregnancies with fetal abnormalities. Hands-on technical ultrasound training will not be part of this course.
