This course is relevant for those currently working as Labour Ward Coordinators, and/or those hoping to progress into a Labour Ward Coordinator role.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

To build skills, knowledge, confidence and empowerment in leadership, resilience and communication. The course is tailored for those currently working as Labour Ward Coordinators, and/or those hoping to progress into a Labour Ward Coordinator role.

This programme covers Leadership and Communication; the Resilience aspects of the course are covered on a separate day.

COURSE CONTENT

Using a combination of talks, workshops and interactive discussions, the following topics are covered:

  • Applying core leadership principles including situational awareness, prioritisation, and confident decision‑making, to maintain safe oversight of the labour ward
  • Demonstrating clear, calm, and authoritative leadership and communication during clinical emergencies
  • Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues, promoting collaboration, mutual respect, and psychological safety within the team.
  • Engaging with service users and their families using compassionate, inclusive, and trauma‑informed communication
  • Giving and receiving feedback constructively
  • Leading and navigating challenging conversations with colleagues and service users professionally and empathetically
  • Conducting safe, structured handovers and escalating concerns confidently
  • Role‑modelling positive leadership behaviours.
