Stephanie Larcombe

Head of Midwifery  – Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

I qualified as a midwife in 2004 and since then have worked in a variety of settings from community midwife, labour ward coordinator and community/ Homebirth Team Lead, my present role is central to achieving the challenging and ambitious maternity transformation programme.

I was formerly a supervisor of midwives and was part of a pilot site to implement the Professional Midwifery Advocate role when supervision ended, testing the new model of providing restorative clinical supervision for midwives. I continue this role providing both individual and group sessions to midwives, maternity support workers and obstetric colleagues at the trust.

I participate as a panel member of experts undertaking confidential enquires for MBRRACE-UK Perinatal Confidential Enquiry these have included the (ESMiE Enhancing the safety of midwife Led Birth Enquiry).  Part of my current role focuses on implementing Saving Babies Lives, improving safety through quality improvement projects.

Being part of the faculty supports my passion for Homebirth and ensuring safety through well managed obstetric emergencies in the community.
