Steph qualified as a Midwife in 2011 and continues to practise as a Midwife at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital on delivery suite, where she provides care to women and their babies with very complex and high-risk medical, obstetric and mental health needs throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.

The strategic intention of her role within the ambulance service is to lead the provision for emergency pre-hospital maternity care. Steph works very closely with the 15 maternity units across the region, to ensure professional standards are maintained, achieved and robust system processes are in place to ensure education and training fulfils the national requirements of the service, quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance is maintained.

Steph is the main point of contact for all maternity related incidents, ensuring all operational clinical standards of maternity care are consistently maintained and kept up to date with local and national guidance for pre-hospital maternity care, to coincide with the NMC and the HCPC.

The extensive knowledge and experience of working in a high acuity maternity unit and as the maternity lead for the ambulance service, has enabled her to educate her peers on the differences in the scope of a Paramedic and Midwives practice. Steph thoroughly enjoys this unique niche mix of both clinical and non-clinical midwifery experience within the acute and emergency pre-hospital setting, as this provides her with assurance that she can continue to make a difference. To the quality of pre-hospital maternity care provided by ambulance clinicians, help maintain patient safety and further supporting them to achieve clinical excellence for the benefit of all women and their babies across the West Midlands region.
