Director of Midwifery, Birmingham Women’s & Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Louisa qualified as a midwife in 2001 with the majority of her career having been spent within the intrapartum environment covering both physiological birth and complex care delivery within a variety of settings. She has been blessed to have had opportunities to work abroad in both India, Africa and Australia which provided invaluable experience to enhance her own skills and appreciate the global midwifery profession.
She has always been passionate about education and development, and worked as a Practice Development Midwife where she re-invigorated education in obstetric emergencies, fetal monitoring and human factors as she completed her master degree in Education for Health Professionals.
Louisa spent 4 years as a consultant midwife, promoting informed decision making and personalised care whilst building an extensive professional practice team and leading on nationally recognised improvement projects such as Induction of Labour. She then progressed to Head of Midwifery and Associate Director of Nursing for the Women’s division where she embraced the challenge and ability to influence the maternity safety agenda across a whole organisation so all women benefit.
In 2025, Louisa was appointed as the Director of Midwifery for Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS FT, where she provides corporate, professional and strategic leadership for maternity and women’s services.
