Human Factors & Ergonomist Specialist and a Registered Midwife

Ethel is a Human Factors & Ergonomist Specialist and a Registered Midwife with over 16 years’ experience in healthcare. She has a background in safety investigations, training, safety & risk management. As well as conducting safety investigations, Ethel also provided Human Factors support to the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) and has delivered Human Factors and investigation training to a range of professionals.

Ethel has worked on projects such as service evaluation and inclusivity, understanding workloads in complex environments as well as collaborative working with national organisations in improving safety. She has held senior management positions at HSIB and is currently engaged as Head of Patient Safety Oversight for NHS England.  In addition to this, she delivers safety investigation & human factors training in healthcare as well as to the global mining industry.

Ethel has an MSc in Human Factors from Loughborough University and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors.
