Dr Anna Madeley

Registered Midwife

Anna is a registered midwife located in the South Midlands who has enjoyed an extensive range of midwifery roles across 3 NHS trusts including labour, postnatal and antenatal care, ADAU , community and in practice development. Anna established and ran a successful NHS homebirth team in 2016 and has currently works as a senior midwifery lecturer.  Anna specialises interest in full scope midwifery education, complex and personalised care planning, community based midwifery and intrapartum care, critical thinking and decision making in childbearing. Anna is passionate about evidence based, safe maternity care, undertaking research into midwives supporting complex care for women who choose to birth and home and most recently her PhD research sought to explore why and how women and birthing people construct their decision to make non-normative (out of guideline, declining care or intervention/ requesting non indicated care/ interventions or social norms) choices along the childbearing continuum, the underlying processes that accompany those decisions and how this knowledge might inform strategic direction, policy and guidance. Anna previously held Resuscitation Council UK new-born life support instructor status and enjoys writing,  education, innovative practice and supporting positive culture change to improve outcomes for women.
