Tora Clark-Ward

Patient Safety and Governance Midwife, Rosie Maternity Hospital, Cambridge

Victoria is currently on a year-long secondment as a Maternity Investigator with the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch and is studying for an MSc in Patient Safety at Imperial College, London. She is passionate about patient safety; endorsing learning rather than blaming, involving and supporting both families and staff and teaching human factors to multi-disciplinary teams.

Tora has practised as a midwife for 19 years predominantly working as a delivery unit and birth centre coordinator in three different maternity units.  She also worked as a Supervisor of Midwives for over 10 years having gained a postgraduate certificate with distinction in Supervision and Leadership in 2007.

The photo of Tora was taken just after she gave birth at home to her first child. Spending a lot of her time looking at cases with unexpected, sometimes traumatic and often sad outcomes it is really important to remember that childbirth can be uncomplicated and joyous; she finds working clinical shifts helping women give birth to be an effective way to keep it in perspective.
