Suzanne is a specialist midwife for women at risk of Small for Gestational (SGA) Infants at St Mary’s Hospital Manchester. She is the midwifery lead for the Manchester Placenta Clinic and the St Mary’s Rainbow Clinic. The Manchester Placenta Clinic, led by Dr Ed Johnstone, is a novel clinic which aims to improve the care and outcomes of women at risk of fetal growth restriction (FGR) by effective antenatal detection and through the delivery of timely individualised care.
The Rainbow Clinic, led by Dr Alex Heazell, is an innovative service for bereaved parents beginning with the investigation of perinatal death, making plans for and then providing intensive screening for complications in a subsequent pregnancy and additional psychological support. Suzanne and her colleagues are committed to the reduction of perinatal mortality in the UK alongside the provision of individualised care by a dedicated team known to the women and their families. Both clinics are a partnership between Tommy’s the baby charity, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.
Suzanne has a breadth of clinical and research experience, in 2011, Suzanne completed an MPhil through The University of Manchester, she used a phenomenological approach to explore women’s experiences of attending a high risk obstetric clinic. Until recently Suzanne held the post of Research Midwife Co-ordinator and was responsible for the development of the research portfolio within the Reproductive Health and Childbirth network. Suzanne has an active public engagement role and leads the MFHRC User Involvement Group. Suzanne is a member of the Midwifery and Women’s Health Research Group (University of Manchester) and also teaches undergraduate and postgradutate programmes at The University of Manchester.
