Helena is a mature professional midwife with extensive experience in clinical practice, management, project work and most recently, education.
“I ‘retired & returned’ to the NHS in 2015 which affords me the time to support the Baby Lifeline Training Programme where I am a course director for the Emergency Care in the Community Study Days.
As a maternity practice educator, I am responsible for ensuring the maternity mandatory and continuing professional education programmes meet the requirements of both the clinical and corporate governance risk management agendas. Likewise, I am responsible for ensuring that lessons learnt from complaints, litigation and adverse clinical events are integrated into the aforementioned education programmes.
I have a special interest in the management of maternity/obstetric emergencies in both hospital and community settings and have been actively involved in introducing human factors in patient safety to our in-house emergency care training programme.
Prior to recent changes in legislation I was a Supervisor of Midwives for 22 years.”
